Well I have just spoken to the attendance officer and she states her own words " couldn't do without it as it would be a nightmare to contact all these parents by hand" then she goes on to state that not all parents get back in touch as will always be the case even with e-mails and not everyone has a computer but they are all likely to have mobiles.

20th March 2010, 09:21 PM #17 We use KeepKidsSafe and to my knowledge, it works well.
From what I understand of it parents can also text back and it'll record this in the system, they can call and leave a message on a dedicated KKS number unique to our school or email back to KKS (unique email) and it's all recorded in the same place.
It does SMS and email and integrates into SIMS. Also updates automatically.

Use ParentMail.
I checked exhaustively amongst them all and ParentMail were the best combination of value for money, functionality and most important SERVICE! (They aren't the cheapest ... but if you try hard enough you'll always find a man who does it cheaper!)
Nothing is too much trouble for them and they bend over backwards to help us on the rare occasions we have a problem.
Not often these days you find a company like this. Can't praise them highly enough.

Once you have purchased the text message system, you can buy the e-mailling system for a 1-off fee of £49.
It links into SIMS and supports multiple logons so other people in your school can use it. You can set-up various group on it (e.g. all of our pe teams are setup so if an event is cancelled we can send a text straight away).
We have never had any problems with it!

T2P have only just bought in email so you'd be a bit of a guinea pig for them. I also understand that you have to use a separate website for email rather than text .... although that info was given me by a third party.
ParentMail have been doing email and text for 7 years .... so it's tried and trusted.
