16th March 2010, 05:34 PM #1 Cost Of Graphic Work. What Do You Pay?
Looking for some information on what to charge for graphic work. As most members know I dabble in a little photoshop now and then and have put together some bits in the past for members. Now I sometimes get the odd request by parties that are willing to pay for the service, but I have no idea what the going rate for such things is.
So my question to you is, if you have had design work done for yourself or school in the past, what kind of prices have you paid? Things along the lines of school logo / corporate ID / prospectus / school signage general for print stuff.
Thanks in advance.

prospectus - £150 - £200 depending on what is wanted

16th March 2010, 07:35 PM #6 It seems to vary quite a bit, here are some sites geared to logo design that have some pricing structures:
https://www.logoworks.com/logodesign...gn.com+Landing
Logo Design NZ - Elogo Design - Business Branding & Website Design, Logo
Logo Design By Logo Design Guru: Low Cost And High Quality Company Logos
Logo Design NZ designs creative logos by Auckland logo designers
Looks like concept packages would start at about £100 and go quickly north from there. Ages ago when we had our school logo redesigned I believe it was quite expensive, I was not directly involved in the finance bit of it but I would think more than £200 easily.

16th March 2010, 08:41 PM #7 I've used elance.com quite successfully before as a buyer to tender for graphic design work (corporate IDs, logos, leaflet designs etc). Typically through them (remember there are a lot of Eastern European and Indian based design shops on there as well) we were paying around the £300-500 mark for Corporate IDs including a new logo dependant on how much we wanted included.
For local work I'd look at that as a starting point with a set number of revisions (or similar so your not spending forever on a design) and then charging for any extras.

17th March 2010, 10:31 AM #8 For sign posts and welcome signs etc, I take it that you would be vectorising them?
As for costs, that should be done on a price per hour basis (upto £100 per hour) depending on how complex it is and what they want, but that should be negotiable.

17th March 2010, 10:41 AM #9 I usually like to make £20 per hour, it keeps me happy. That is £20 take home so add at least 20% for the tax man and paper work.
What makes me happier is if I get paid more than this, but It really depends on how long you are going to spend on a project and how much repeat business you are likely to get. I have mates rates as well as government rates.
