I don't see how thats controversial.

The author is mearly stating the fact that the current generation of students are very used to IT and therefore teaching methods should try and improve to adopt that. It's something I've heard many time but the main problem is lack of IT knowledge by some teachers and it is not just the older generation of teachers. In fact a lot of our NQTs (early 20somethings) have a very poor grasp of IT and how to teach it where as some of the, shall we say, more establised teachers are a lot more interested in how it can be used to further the childrens learning by making it more interesting and relevant to them.

    Just my 2p

Indeed she is.... Only just noticed that.
I still stand by the point. Hollie I think you are correct but before we can educate the children we need to educate the teachers.

I have to agree this is becoming more common now, it's like we have a headteacher whom was scared to even turn on a computer at one point, did not want to use email as he preferred it to be on paper and he then just wrote in the left hand corner as to what he wanted done with it and passed it onto his PA.

Likewise we have some of the older generation staff here whom feel the same and dont like to use ICT in there lessons and just stick to using a blackboard/whiteboard, but also do not understand the power behind ICT in lessons.

I do also agree, i think with the new technologies that have been released recently or to be released in the next few months, Windows7/Office2010/SharePoint2010 will make things even easier for the people whom are scared of the technology to hopfully take a look at it some more with the interfaces being alot smoother and friendly.

    Great Post btw!

    James.

Careful, you'll end up with union snipers on your neighbours roof for voicing ideas like that

I do agree though, we also get freshly minted teachers who can't even turn a computer on which is a failure in their initial training in the first place. This though terrible will be very difficult to correct given the amount of inertia the teaching proffession is able to subject such measures to.
