Red Hat? SUSE Linux? Apache? MySQL? These are bad, evil, un-American entities.
Seems a bit odd.
I guess it is un-American [in the terms of this article] to co-operate on multiple, complex projects. It is more American then to only work on things which are guaranteed to make a profit [preferably a large profit] and it would be all the better if the product thus developed requires many updates/upgrades during its lifetime.
I would say that if the competition is too great for these companies to compete with Open-Source then perhaps they should consider not working in that sector any more. Open-Source is a viable alternative to other sources. And of course Open-Source is not completely free of cost when you take into account ongoing support [if support is required]
Open-Source is not illegal: Reading this article you might think it were or that there was an attempt to make it illegal.

5th March 2010, 09:47 AM #4 Surely the "free-as-in-speech" part of Open Source is constitutionally American?
Just as American as bringing patriotism into unrelated arguments and discussions. The way that they use the term "Americans" when they mean "people" - even in legislation like the "Americans with Disabilities Act" interchangably irritates me deeply.
