17th February 2010, 01:16 AM #1 Blank Screens at 1am :@
There I was just checking my email whilst listening to music and all of a sudden the screens go blank and the powersaving message comes on and goes into standby mode, at this point the music is still playing no cables have come loose it's dual screen but it's just... Dead... Turned the pc on and off whilst getting frustraited and tired... Now for the £600000 question is the graphics card dead

17th February 2010, 07:35 AM #2 I would try both screens on both graphics cards and see if there is any output - also am assuming you are getting power to the screens ie light on the power button or some indication of there being power ?
If that does not work then I would take the graphics cards out completely and reseat them and any power connectors ( if it uses any power molex connectors ) then power on again and try again, if still the same when you have the side open do you get any activity on the graphics card(s) ie fans moving or something like that ?
Also do you have an onboard graphics card that you could maybe enable temporarily and try one of the screens on that at a time to make sure the screens are ok ?
Also are these xfx cards or you had them long or what exactly ?

I've not had the chance to see what is causing it yet!

Surely with this you would still see BIOS messages at boot and such, so you would know that your graphics card/screen is working?

17th February 2010, 08:11 AM #6 Yup - anything to do with the OS and you'll get a bios...
Reseat grfx cards. If that doesn't work, unplug stuff from the board and run in with the bare minimum. If that doesn't, yank some ram out, the board should boot and beep are you, if it gets this far it's probably the graphics. If no beeps - it might be the board instead

It was quite funny how many people I know got that BlackSOD. I just looked smug and said 'It wouldn't of happened if you used Linux'

17th February 2010, 12:56 PM #10 Had a play around with the card this morning, tried it in 2 other computers, but still nothing, my pc runs fine at the moment with the onboard graphics
which means I can only run 1 screen, looks kinda odd really
Ordered an ATI HD5770 so should hopefully get it tomorrow xD

No, but that's because it's called a 'kernal panic' on Linux

I used to use linux on my home pc, but got REALLY annoyed with the updates. A number of times I ran them and it busted the Xorg stuff for my GFX card. So don't say Linux never gets a BSOD. Its more like a functional BSOD that you can still work from.... kinda.

Good choice
I love mine to bits. The silver lining to the "can only afford to upgrade once in a blue moon" cloud is that it makes the new computer that much shinier and lovelier

For some reason Ubuntu see fit to update their 'stable' release about every other day, it's weird... but then, stability is what Debian's for.

17th February 2010, 03:49 PM #15 Mine did this the other night. I had to reseat my gfx and then it was fine. It's not a windows 7 issue, because I wasn't even getting a signal whilst going through post and bios.
