I've had the amazingly fun job of removing a huge, extremely heavy, tower UPS lying on its side at the bottom of our server cabinet.

Couldnt get the battery out because the flap couldnt open enough because of the 'lip' at the bottom of the cab, for the same reason i couldnt just slide the thing out. So after taking most of the panels off, I just about managed to get enough leverage (and didnt pull a muscle) to lift it onto the lip, thus could get the battery out and thus could lift the rest out.

This took like an hour. Was meant to be a 5 minute job

I'm installing loads of stuff, great getting peace and quiet to do it.

It always amazes me though that teachers come in during the holidays then go on about how 'silly they are' for being in...

If I was on holiday I wouldn't be thinking about this place at all!

Found out that the loft space above the room where a projector is being moved has 18 inches of insulation in it, and no walkway - so the contractor had to blindly feel his way from one beam to the next, without falling through, using a head torch as there's no lights up there.

Give me a shout! I'll PM my number.

    My tasks for today:
    1. Apply Smoothwall updates
    2. Update Sun 7110 software
    3. Upgrade XenServer to 5.5 Update 2
    4. Apply SIMS patches

    ^^^ All done

    Tomorrow's Tasks:
    1. Make the wireless work like I want it to rather than the way it works now! (BlueSocket don't make life easy!)

We just purchased adobe cs4 premium, and are deciding how on earth we can roll it out, but I think a brew will have the answer, or if not i'll right the other site/team.

No holidays here in the private sector, but still lots of fun to be had.

Currently working out how I am going to play musical servers with our ESXi based virtual machines so I can install Citrix xen on each bit of tin, ready for our new domain.

Also colour coding patch cables before anyone gets in on the mornings.

I've told everyone there is no access to the network all week and few people asked stupid questions like can they get their email.

So far today I've comepletely unpatched the main commms cabinet so that means no-one can get on anyway

I've now put my second 4108GL into the cab and shuffled other stuff down and now I'm repatching it with colour coded patch leads.

I'm also in the process of rebuilding the second cab which houses the firewall and webproxy.

Got my backup adsl working first though

New T710 Dell server to install 2008 R2 on and integrate into the domain, move users from old server.

Also have to setup clustered xenservers with ix4-200d for storage and then virtualise my servers which are running on old out of warranty hardware.

Had the final site survey done for our SALTO access control project today.

Got guy from Pervasive networks in tomorrow to discuss wireless voip.

    Wednesday cable guys are in.

My techie is in setting up a few new laptops and pc's and reimaging some older kit and installing new software.

    Just a few things.

    Ben
