From the BBC F1 site:
We will not be able to provide F1 coverage in high definition this year. The BBC relies on Formula 1 Management (FOM) for the provision of all of its live pictures and as such the broadcasting of high definition pictures is dependent upon whether FOM uses HD cameras or not.
That is just so typical FOM - plonkers. F1 is supposed to be the pinnacle of technology and engineering and they don't even bother broadcasting it in HD?

14th February 2010, 01:41 PM #4 I'd say pretty much all programs now are probably filmed in HD quality, but whether they'll ever get broadcasted in HD is hit and miss at the moment. You would of thought Formula 1 would have a big enough audience.
Eventually when the digital switch over happens hopefully most channels will make the HD switch over. Just a shame we still have 2 years or so left in the UK until all areas make the switch.

Just think - 2 cameras on each car. Imagine the feeling of speed flying through monaco... i'd pay to go to the cinema to watch that.

Comparatively little is - the BBC only has 6 HD capable studios in the entire country (3 at TV Centre, 3 in Glasgow) for example.
Following DSO, there will only be about 4 HD channels on Freeview HD. Sadly digital TV has become an exercise in cramming in as many channels as possible rather than taking advantage of the quality which is possible with digital transmission.
