Britain Raises Threat Level To "severe"

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain on Friday raised its international terrorism threat level to 'severe' -- its second highest level of terror alert -- from 'substantial' on Friday.

There are five levels of threat:

    * Critical - an attack is expected imminently

    * Severe - an attack is highly likely

    * Substantial - an attack is a strong possibility

    * Moderate - an attack is possible but not likely

    * Low - an attack is unlikely

Yes, well possible if we spent less time blowing our civil rights out the window:

welcome to trial without jury for instance, the loss of right to silence which was only ever going to harm innocent people - Stop & Search; recently ruled illegal by the court of human rights because of the lack of controls & highlighted by the searching of a pair of children and confiscation of: sweets and coloring pens!!!

And a little less time conducting wars for other people, and a bit more time thinking about what we should really be doing with the billions spent yearly on trying to remain a world power rather than looking after our woeful economic situation and p*** poor welfare state (yes I know its still better than most; but given our taxes - don't you think it should be the best?)

We might get there. But heyho - there is so much to made from making bullets............

Wonko the sane was right, we are in the asylum :P

More scare mongering from big brother. Control through fear is the aim.

No doubt the papers will be full of it in the morning - yet more trash media reporting from all the major news channels & the government media whores desperately trying to muscle in and get some air time.......And Ooooo, surprise surprise the election is only months away - what timing !!

Yup there's a good reason for that phrase "cynicism of age", but the last 40 years have also been quite interesting in a kind of hypocritical way: On the one hand the definitions of what is and isn't good/tolerant/whatever reached new heights, but ethics/morality also took a serious nose dive (never have so many been so selfishly materialistic)

    I blame the telly^H^H^H^H^H Internet.

According to the OP's link, the threat level was raised to Critical after the attempted glasgow
airport bombings. It was then lowered to severe some time after, but if you look below it appears that the threat level was kept at severe [where the current threat level has now been returned to]
    for nearly two years.

20 July 2009 - Level lowered to substantial. Government says threat remains strong possibility.

4 July 2007- Lowered to severe. Government assesses threat is no longer imminent
If that's the case, i hadn't realised that. Not once. We had fully two years where all the while the threat level was severe and thus the risk of terror attack being 'highly likely'.

It's all a load of tosh, 6 people are killed EVERY DAY on the roads in this country, do they have a threat level of danger for this ? All they want to do is control you through fear, pure and simple.
And someone please correct me but during the IRA bombing years I don't recall something like this in place although I may be wrong.

Also this is being reported because of the complete nonsense regarding section 44 of the terrorism act:

They will be cutting our eyes out next...

The thing is, with the advances made in weather forecasting our glorious leaders believe that the masses expect them to know everything in advance and think that as long as they make some kind of prediction we will trust it.

If only they knew the truth... we know they know nothing

Bit early to say whether it will be a mild winter overall (we've had a few days of very cold snowy weather so far but there's still quite a bit of the season to go) but we did have a barbecue summer where I live!

History : Weather Underground is the weather data for July 2009; average rainfall of 0.0. Coolest day was 17C and hottest 30C and there were certainly plenty of barbecues going on near me!

This is typical behaviour when something negative may be happening in government. The USA use the same tactic all the time.

Ooh look over there! Terrorists! Don't look at us, what we're doing isn't important. These aren't the droids you are looking for...

Oh, and age has nothing to do with cynicism. I'm not 38 and I am critical of everything...
