Crashed My Car -- Need some advice.

    Hello,

Slid off the road this morning, into a wall. was not that bad as i was going very slow and I would like some advice.

After saying more swear words than I thought I knew, I talked to a person in the house who's wall it was (knocked out a couple of bricks and damaged a wooden fence.) Gave them my details insurance, names, number and what-not.

Then went outside, moved my car, it ticked over fine, but was making a very bad noise ( on further investigation, and one pair of suit trousers ruined, something behind the bumper has been push back and is touching a pulley down there, and my rad fan is catching on something.

I waited for the recovery (4 hours it took them, due to my insurance giving them the wrong address)

when he got there, he said (unofficially) that it looks like they would write it off due to its age, but it looked drivable, and confirmed that it was the fan/pully combo making the bad noise. So i decided not to have it taken away by him, i singed some paper to confirm this, and continued my drive to work with no issues at all.

So, Does this mean that I have made a claim against my insurance? Will I loose my no claims? Do i need to tell direct line I am sorting it out repair wise my self?

Thanks for any info, not had to do anything like this before.

Unless you're prepared to pay the cost of the recovery call out and repairing the old couples wall then yes you will have to claim.

Some insurance companies will let you pay the cost of the claim and keep your NCB. You will still however have to say you've had an accident.

You'll have made a claim in respect of the damage to the third party's wall, assuming they decide to persue it.

If the couple make a claim for their wall, you might aswell get the car fixed aswell.

    thanks,

let my insurance know that i had hit the wall immediately.

have not yet spoken to the wall owner as he was not in, how ever I am going to call tonight and offer to pay for repairs myself as it was not that bad (maybe 6 bricks off the wall and one snapped fence pannel.) and see what he says to that.

if he agrees to take my cash without going through the insurance claim stuff. and I repair the car myself. Will I have my no claims still?
