Closed down here in East Sussex, a lot more snow than I think was forecast. I had a good 2 - 3 inches of fresh snow on my car this morning.
Started off to work as was told the school was open, 15 minutes into my usual 30 minute journey, and I had only just made it off my estate! The phone rang, t'was the boss telling me they had decided that in actual fact the school was going to be closed.
Turned round to take a further 25 minutes to get home as by this time the roads were beginning to get littered with cars that were just wheel spinning or not moving.
we had a couple of hours of slushy conditions heavy snow mixed with heavy sleet, plymouth was gridlocked for two hours because of a combination of roadworks on the major route and the weather, 1000's were stuck on the A38 nr exeter due to the weather, 8 hours!!! they were there for, bugger that!
anyway woke this morning to not a flake or slush in sight, completely gone! bah!
Derby is covered in black ice this morning, as was my car. Couldn't do anything other than slide off my drive and if the main road hadn't been gritted I'd have just left my car there and not even tried it.
The best part is the school carpark. You have to drive to the end of a road which gets progressivly worse as there's less people needing to drive along it. Then at the end you have to do a 180 to drive into the carpark. As I was driving sideways round this corner I noticed a wheelie bin with a sign on it saying "Very bad ice" ...yes...thanks for that...how about some grit/salt?
Forecast for snow all day today I think. Will be fun if that sits ontop of the black ice!! :'(
not closed here, has taken me an hour and a half to drive the journey that normally takes 25/30 mins!! about inch and a half more snow on top of a couple of inches or so and still failling
It's like we live in a different world...looking at the map on the TV last night, the snow actually skipped us - curving up gracefully from left to right.
We managed about a centimetre of slushy snow last night.
When people remember the winter of 2009-2010 as particularly hard, all us East Dorset folks will be going 'huh?'
I think the BBC manage to miss Somerset and Dorset off their forecasts most of the time. When they were talking about the snow in the South West last night, they talked about Devon, Cornwall and Gloucester and a 2 second comment including Somerset and Dorset. The weather man, with his big sweeping map of the UK swooshes past us like we don't exist...

I was born in Dorset, lived in Wimborne for the first few years of my life. I have a vague memory of snow when I was about 5 years old, some 40 years ago!
Huddersfield is under black ice, buses are suspended and although I live on a main road and could have driven in, it took half an hour to chip the ice off half the windscreen (the de-icer was freezing on contact!) I've gone for the "phone work and take a day's annual leave and sit and watch crap daytime telly" approach.
Apparently the road between one of the main student halls and the Uni is blocked due to the ice, so the place will be quiet today anyway.

I know what you mean by a different world. Living in South Devon and the snow misses us most of the time. We had rain most of the day yesterday but outside of town there was snow! Today is a lovely sounny day...
