BUT, I actually saw a snow-plough today! First time I've seen one in 17 years living in Kent! It wasn't doing anything useful like spreading grit or ploughing the High Street; it was parked outside KFC!

Our forecast is for snow from about 9pm tonight until Tuesday. So, if true, we'll have some fun...

It has already started in places in South Devon.

I love those boots! But the salt will ruin them!!
No snow here as yet - only 'light snow' predicted

No snow? If it's any consolation, I am preparing to dig myself out tomo to go somewhere I need to be! Think you might get some overnight tonight? Fingers crossed!

10th January 2010, 08:46 AM #275 We appear to have had a partial thaw overnight. I can see patches of tarmac outside and there is no snow/frost on the cars. No snow in the forecast for us either.

Likewise! I was surprised this morning to see my car with considerably less snow on it than late last night, and whilst we don't have any tarmac to speak of, there has definitely been a thaw of sorts. Yipee! Roads still look decidedly dodgy though, boooo!
Temperatures for the South East might even hit a 'balmy' 7 degrees later on next week. Piņa colada, shorts and sunglasses at the ready!

10th January 2010, 02:31 PM #279 We've had a slight thaw this morning too. Less snow than forecasted overnight, regular snow showers today. We've dug the drive out (again) this morning and cleared the cars in the hope we may be able to go somewhere tomorrow.
I was amused by BBC Breakfast news on Bluebell Hill (between Chatham and Maidstone) this morning.
1. A cyclist rode past the reposrter just as she was saying how dreadful the roads were.
2. Bluebell Hill is a good place if you want to see the worst weather in Kent
3. If they were filming at the top of it, it was clearly open and therefore conditions can't be too bad!

'Down' here in East Sussex, the roofs of houses are considerably less snow covered now than they were first thing this morning, and the snow on the ground is far more slushy than it has been these last few days. It is trying to snow, but barely succeeding. I am even going to clear our drive and footpath in a short while to speed up the disappearance of the dwindling snow!
It also feels decidedly 'warmer' here, albeit still near freezing! Here's to the 'thaw' continuing!

10th January 2010, 08:46 PM #282 BBC News - Most Scottish schools expected to open amid freeze
The vast majority of Scotland's schools are expected to be open on Monday, despite predictions of more harsh weather conditions.
However, thanks to the efforts of everyone across the country, Scotland is coping well.
Putting us to shame in the south.

11th January 2010, 07:33 AM #284 An inch of snow overnight that has covered the ice. The roads are as bad as they have been all week. I nearly hit the armco coming in this morning!

We've tried getting scots in to run the place, but it's not helped ;-)
