How about this for an evil question. Take a working computer disable it's network connection. Start Internet Explorer (assuming IE is the only availible browser). When error page appears set it as your home page. Reenable network connection.
Then ask candidates a question like "Teacher reports that the their Internet is not working. Diagnose and fix"

While the tasks above are simple, would they be that simple when you know someone is watching you and whether you get the job or not depends on whether you can fix it or not? I know it sounds silly, but I have screwed up the easiest of tasks before due to nerves.
I agree, how many times have you been left scratching your head because you forgot to look at the obvious.
Me and a colleague spent and hour messing with a cisco PIX config until we realised the network cable was unplugged!
Fortunately this doesn’t happen too often (I wouldn’t have a job) but under pressure in a test situation its difficult to focus on anything.

It happens to us all - a few months ago I had a problem with media Player - certain I'd seen something about it on edugeek I did a search and found the solution.
nothing wrong in that I hear you say - well the author of the solution was me

Walk up to computer press f5, look smug, give exmainer a 'Don't waste my time' look and get the job.

Thin slivers of scotch tape and electrical contacts.
Oh and one interview had questions on mainframes for a completely unrelated job.
[edit: that was an interview I went to, not one I set up]

Does not work tried it. when the connection is reestablished it will come up with the page you were originally after. Would work if you knew the exact address for the error page.
