    Convert Text On Image Into Editable Text

    Came across the website today:

    Link: Convert Text On Image Into Editable Text

    The site says:

    NewOCR.com is a brand new free online OCR (Optical Character Recognition) service. Whether you have a scanned document or a photo, NewOCR.com can analyze the text in any image file that you upload, and then convert the text from the image into text that you can easily edit on your computer.

    NewOCR.com features:

    Unlimited uploads, no registration, 100% secure!

    Layout analysis (multi-column text recognition)

    Multilingual support for 29 languages: Bulgarian, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovene, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese.

    Image resizing and rotation before the recognition process begins. Allows to optimize image to achieve the best recognition results

    Image files (JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF) up to 1 MB

    Multi-page PDF documents up to 10 MB

    Download recognition results as a text file or Word document.
    I have experimented with several JPGs and I have managed to extract satisfactory results from some of the pictures. The results seem to depend upon the original image quality [to be expected], how big the font is and how 'fancy' it is [very elaborate fonts or pictures where are objects are used to form the words are unlikely to be successful: Earlier I experimented with a picture where the words were formed from the image of a hedge: Not a single word was extracted from the picture]

    I have wanted just such a utility in the past and just thought that others might find it of use occasionally.

    Tried it on the following example CAPTCHA JPEG:

    With the following results:

    Dictionary words;
    Blur and PNG for better image quality:
    %\m)1.BD iééwf
    Shadows: § E
    Random characters;
    WW \J§@v~|
    I do not believe that the image quality was a factor in the non-recognition of some of the words as 'Dictionary words' etc were converted perfectly.
