I've lived with and had lots of pets, but they were all named by others. My first pet as an adult is Alfie, a Fox Terrier. Here he is in the park last week.
We have a hamster called Buddy which was named by the 2 (nearly 3) year old son.
Dog called Buffy
Current cats - Puss and Harry, part-time lodger cat Louis (loo-weee), past cats Tiddles, Smudge, Hamish and Aftershock.
Our tortoise is officially called Joe... but is usually just called Tortoise.
Pic of Mac attached
Unfortunately I've sided with my wife's method of naming pets.
Our cat is Brandy.
Previously, she's had:
And she's teetotal |:
Re:alcoholic names - my mum took in a dog called Sherry (it's original owner was a drinker) but she couldnt bear to call 'Sherry' so she renamed her Ceri (short for Ceridwen, pronounced Kerry)
This is a picture of Smudge. He is a mixture of Staffie, (about 1/8th, the vet reckons) and some sort of terrier or three - we think...

Well it took a lot of nudging and poking to get me to agree to Brandy. Said it made her sound like a pornstar
makes interesting reading, especially when you combine the data for what people have chosen to call themselves and what avatar picture they have chosen, and what their pets names are...however it appears that partners/parents/spouses and children have an impact on the household pet and not simply the geek answering the question.....i was of the opinion that us geeky types should have strange names, such as Gates, Jobs, Hawkings....plus the usual smatterings of deathound, fang etc...i am having to readjust my opinion, however i guess there may be others out there with stranger names/avatars..going to contact the great grumbledook and twozeroalpha, etc.....
to all who have answered thank you it will allow me to:
1.answer the year 9 with a definitive answer .....
2. prove to the year 9 that i am indeed a geek (by using a forum to ask the question)
number crunching soon....cheers all
butterscotch (3 legged rabbit - due to an unfortunate accident...perhaps i should have called him eric- eric the half a rabbit)
We have a cat called CLEO, my mums cat so its short for Cleopatra but I just think of the RBC every time
We have a budgie called bilbo, a rabbit called fudge, a hamster called scrabble, a guinea pig called roddie and we used to have another called noodles. (mine was the deceased one) and the rest belong to my sister who is also a bit of a geek.
Cat's (2) called Einstein and Timmy.
Two cocker spaniels called Echo and Fiver.
Sorry nothing demonic there.
Thinking of getting a cat now I have moved and already have a couple of names lined up. Squidgey Roadkill chosen by my daughter or Splatt which is my choice.
