Full time 35hrs a week Term Time Only. No problem with overtime if needed. But project has to be talked over with the HT and authorised. OT or TOIL available, and they will make me take it. Emergency OT never been an issue.
I couldn't justify any more hours really, nor working during the holidays.
Edit: School details
Around 450 Kids
120 desktop machines
70 laptops
All AV kit
Just me to look after it.

16th October 2009, 10:05 AM #17 Full time, reason being maintenance. You can get more work done in the holidays when there is no one interupting you every 5 mins. Also used for testing/updating moving of equipment etc when rooms are free.

16th October 2009, 10:14 AM #18 37 hours, full time, 30 days annual leave plus any non Bank Holidays between Christmas Eve lunchtime and the 2nd Jan.
Much the same as everybody else has said, the summer is the time when you can rip infrastructure out and upgrade it without inconveniencing too many people. Although that is becoming less and less possible with MSc courses that have students working on projects through the summer.
If we get the summer work right - in particular making sure that the student lab image is nice and stable and fast - term time runs a lot more smoothly for everyone. That of course goes out of the window when somebody decides in the middle of August that there is money for new machines and furniture after all and you have to start again...

16th October 2009, 10:15 AM #19 Here there is me as IT Manager, 1 assistant manager & 2 junior techs. We are all term time only + 4 weeks. 1 person is in most days in the hols doing maintenance.
We are a 1400 student secondary, 175 staff, 650 laptops/PCs and all the gubbins that goes with that + supporting a few feeder primary schools. We manage fine not being full time.
If we do need people to work extra in the hols for a big kit refresh etc. they get paid overtime (I don't but I just accept some extra work goes with the salary)

16th October 2009, 10:28 AM #23 full time, 9-5, 36hours a week, 24 days holidays + bank holidays etc
three member team (ICT Tech, Senior ICT Tech and Network Manager)
supporting nearly 1000 users.
I dont think we could survive part time with the amount of out of hours jobs.
We need to full time to apply windows update, cc3 updates, software reboots on server, rebuild ICT rooms and downtime during working hours in a big no no.

16th October 2009, 12:37 PM #25 I work 37.5 hours a week with 30 days holiday.
This was because the previous NM did those hours and so im stuck with them too.
My Techy is term time only, and so im left to do the jobs on my own.
TBH, the holidays are worked at a slower pace. But I can get lots done I cant do in term time.
It really depends on your workload and how many computers to support staff you have. We have over 450 computers here and whiteboards and projectors in every classroom, so you can imagine there is plenty to go at.

16th October 2009, 12:39 PM #26 37 1/2 hours a week 52 week contract - 22 days holiday with 5 extra days for bank holiday's and 5 extra for long service that gives me a grand total of 33 day's........

It's good enough for me as me an webman rarely get to use our quota and sometimes we are allowed to take time off in school term time to catch up with our holiday's.

16th October 2009, 01:20 PM #29 Here we have NM, Senior Tech, Tech and AV Tech.
We all work full time with varying holidays due to term of service, but if we didn't work full time no imaging would take place as we wouldn't be able to fit it in and just other general maintenance such as server reboots and other down time.

16th October 2009, 01:26 PM #30 I'm full time 20 days hol (+ bank holidays) , increases to 25 after 5 years
It's just me (NM) and one part-time technician (3 days a week term-time)
850 pupils
300+ desktops & laptops
30 whiteboards & projectors
If I wasn't full-time a lot of work wouldn't get done. - balancing a lot of plates.
