Default A list of

Does anyone know of a place I can get a list of all the sci fi boooks written between the 50's up until 1989? Strange request I know but I'm trying to track down a book I read along time ago during the eighties and I can't remeber the title I'm vaguely aware of the overall plot and think I'd recognize the book cover of the title if I saw it written down but sadly I can't think of it.

I'm not sure library classification systems are that specific ?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Library_classification

A copyright library will be offered all books published in UK - maybe check out if these are searchable http://www.llgc.org.uk/aldl/

Hehe, that sounds like a Mr. Mann quote from Little Britain:

Erm, I don't know. One moment please, I'll just ask Margaret... Margaret? Margaret?

Yes?

We have a gentleman wanting to know of a palce he can get a list of all the Sci Fi books written between 1950 and 1989.

I don't think so, no.

She says she doesn't thinks so, no.
Heh. Sorry. ops:

OKay brief outline really really rough I haven't read it in about 20 years mind (don't ask how I suddenly thoguht about because I don't even know!). Guy in grey jumpsuit on cover and a bigger humaniod in golden armour.

Guy in grey is going to a planet to take part in a combat tournament. The guy in grey is physically a lot strong than he looks (can't remember why born on a heavy gravity planet?) for the final fight he has to defeat this guy in golden armour who he has beaten before. This guys armour has been upgraded since then. Inside the armour the character is a shrivelled up corpse of a humanoid.

A greater plot I think is also contained in the book where a council are being directly controlled by some sort of squid like being with a tentacle connected to each of the council members which links them to its mind. I think the guy in gold is it's champion or something.

I'll have to go away and think hard about the plot and see if I can remember anything else......I think the guy in grey had a telepathic helper as well....

Maybe try a Z39.50 search against a catalog known to be good for fiction, eg National Library of Scotland or Clive (lib.ci.clive.ia.us). The "obvious" US Library of Congress is very good for non-fiction searches.
