    Ps3 or slimline ps3?

OK for 250 quid i can get a ps3, 80 gb hdd, and infamous. Or i can get a slimline ps3, with a 120 gb hdd and no game. I am not entirely sure which one to go for. What do people think?

Its a more modern model plus a bigger drive.

Fat you can use a restricted linux (but getting closer using more of the RSX). Bit better build quality by the looks of it with little things like touch sensitive buttons and a shine thats impossible to keep clean.

HD can be upgraded on both units, so popping a 500gb in either can be done straight away.

Nice 10db sound reduction on slim and 30% power drop. Different power supply, not sure if its 110-240 like the fat tho.

Been contemplating buying one aswell. Looking at the specs at the moment it looks like the new model is the much better choice unless you're desperate to play around installing linux on it.

The new PS3 slimline is $299 which is 180, so I suspect it'll be advertised at 200-220 in the UK. The PS3 slimline undoubtedly will run a lot cooler and quieter I suspect. It should also use considerably less power too.

As for the hard drive question, as already mentioned it's simply a SATA 2.5" notebook drive. I suppose you could buy a 7200rpm hard drive as (from memory) I think the PS3 comes with a 5400rpm hard drive. If I am right games could load seconds faster in theory.

I'm hanging on to my 60GB (now 500GB) due to it's backwards compatability, even if it is a bit limited. I do like the idea of matt black though

    You obviously can't read correctly

    1. First off no I do not work for apple I just prefer to come home and use mac os x ( legally )

    2. Its a Mac Pro , NOT a mac book hence more powerful and a desktop case

    Just for comparison

    An apple MAC PRO

    http://www.apple.com/uk/macpro/

    An Apple Mac Book

    http://www.apple.com/uk/macbook/

    3. I can run games on OS X and I do run games on OS X

Play.com (UK) - Free Delivery - PC Games - Games for your Apple Mac

If I have games on windows I use boot camp

I think Simon had another thread about the cloud thing and I commented on there about a comment that synack made some time ago about when uk upgrades internet speeds to something at least half of korea so that we get 512 or gigabit network conenctions via ISP's so instead of having consoles x , y and z ie xbox 360, sony playstation 3 and nintendo wii you would just subscribe to one service and have access to all of it and be able to rent / buy whatever games you wanted.

In the typical brilliant conversion rates, its 249.

Uses a lower rated power supply and 30% less power, apparently.

As long as the drive height is smaller than 12mm, some of the early larger drives as just above this and dont quite fit. SSD apparently works in it too.

Still seems to be a lot of money. I wonder if they'll be a more limited version like the XBOX360 Arcade.

I have trouble reading?? You've equated PS3 slim or PS3 fat to equal Mac!

I game play games on my phone too, but that wont run PS3 games. OSX wont run PS3 games either. Nor will Windows. You need a PS3 for PS3 games.... and this thread is about PS3s.

When the internet has fast speeds, when consoles are gone and when games are subscription service. Pie in the sky.
