That's the second article about the LHA I've read today. It is a shambles. Another article about it pointed out that changes made which mean tenants get paid their rent instead of the landlords. So, what happens now is a tenant gets the money and doesn't pay it to the landlord...

    Yet another Labour mess.

Not sure if you're suggesting this as a solution to benefit-grabbing but I have images of T1000-style robots walking through urban areas killing insurgents with their 'bare hands'.

i think that's in a minority of cases. Ofcourse the system is open to abuse and fraud, but then so was the old system where housing benefit was paid directly to the landlord.

I mean with the old system, what onus was there on the landlord to maintain a property to the required standards ?

All we have now, is these cases being used as another excuse by landlords for not taking on housing benefit tenants in some instances. Bet they don't like it when landlords are all tarred with the same brush.

Ealing is a Tory run council.
I know VERY well the person in charge of housing at Ealing and its great deal more complicated than the press have reported as its quite an old story now.
