I was told that a member of staff had broken the internet...

Your downloads seems quite big, this one must be compressed :

There is a web filtering company who claim to "download the entire internet" once a month.

    NB. It is not us

We have users who must be downloading most of the internet. They routinely download stuff at 1Gbit/s and have recently asked for an increase in their link to 10Gbit/s

They must be sticking in an awful lot of floppy discs to cope with it all :-)

It must be serendipity as there filters are "sooo good" they don't need active content scanning.....

So that's why the internet goes slow now and then. Their hogging all the bandwidth
Does this mean that we adopt the expression "It's that time of the month again..."

    I'll get my coat ...

Hehe, we've got an old floppy in the office that was labelled by some teacher as "internet".... we guard it very closely.

    Talking

I had someone in the office come up to me in a panic after they "deleted the Internet", of course it only took a minute to restore the entire Internet (well the IE bit of it at least) from the recycle bin, just think of all the grateful people around the world I must have helped that day

Google uses complete copies of the internet on its servers (minus files such as photos, music, video) last time I heard it was around 20 TB in size.

When you think about it, 20 TB is a hell of a lot of text.

Wow! Just imagine backing that up to a tape...
Its worrying that even this thread could be in one of google's backup servers.

Internet Archive - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The "official" internet back-up contains (according to the most reliable of sources (wikipedia)) 3 petabytes of data and is growing at 100TB per month.

If Google are only backing up 20TB - it's a tip of the iceberg.

Google are not backing up the internet, they just cache pages for search results. That's not really a backup, it's like taking all the staff and students' work on your servers and storing it in text files regardless of the format. Useful, but not exactly a backup!
