The irony is that iPhone is probably the most expensive phone on the market, yet no other phone seems to suffer from this problem. I can't genuinely believe that anyone would intentionally leave it in direct sunlight.

They are perfectly safe when used outdoors at night though

Just another reason to get a HTC Touch Pro2 IMHO

Very much like all Apple hardware I'm afraid - form over function. Far too many of their hardware suffers from overheating because things like air circulation, natural heat dissipation etc is all pretty much ignored if it means shaving a couple of mm off the dimensions and making it look pretty. Of course they're not the only manufacturers with such a penchant but when you pay a premium for that form, you expect the best out of it.

I suppose the same could be said for the original XBOX 360. Microsoft rushed the product to get it out before PS3 and look at the number of RMAs Microsoft have had. They've made a massive loss when it comes to hardware. Ironically, PS3 was delayed and released a year later at the time. I've only heard of a handful of people experiencing problems, but that was more to do with the Blu-ray drive (which at least is a moving part).

.....while another complained that after carrying his phone in a backpack, it got so hot that the plastic case became distorted with tiny bumps.....

Depending on temperature I wouldn't be very surprised.

How much is the HTC Touch Pro2 on contract and where can I go to have a play on one - contemplating getting an ipod touch for the music side and a phone thats just a phone on contract as getting the pioneer deh-p7100bt for my car and only got about 5 months left on my current contract.

For now at least anyway - in the hope that the next iphone is better.

Nokia N85. Great for music, can play over the car radio (without any messing around with wires), and a good all-around phone.

Ive had 4 htc devices over the years, my latest being the kaiser. The quality gradually dropped as I moved onto the next one. After owning a kaiser I wouldnt touch another HTC device again. Ive moved onto an iphone 3gs (which was painful owing to it being apple :P ) and not had any particular problems with it. It does get warm when I have gps+bluetooth+wifi turned on, but no hotter then the kaiser got.

I run my 3GS in a leather case and it gets alot of use and not once has it even felt warm. Now if you want hot my i900 Omnia used to get red hot if you were hammering it.
