We block it using PCE forensics, really useful for staff to have access. I use it in my teaching all the time.

We block it, but primarily for bandwidth reasons, content is a secondary concern for us.

Once I've got my LEA and Smoothwall singing in harmony (which I believe the good Sir Tom Newton is going to be working on shortly (if he didn't know yet he does now!)) staff will have access to Youtube but not students.

Although it's on a trial basis just now, both pupils and staff get access in our schools (nursery, primary and secondary)

Whilst I can see how useful it is, there's so many things that the kids can access (nursery and lower primary schools) I have second thoughts about it's use.

There has been talk of only staff getting access for use primarily in classes which I think is the right thing to do. I frequently see pupils in P6 upwards watching music videos all the time they are using the computers.

A lot of staff use youtube for teaching.

Personally I think it's a contentious issue because it encourages the kids to use copyrighted material illegally but the teachers don't seem to care (they all do it as well to be honest).

Of course, they won't let us block it but then get cross with their students who use it when they're supposed to be working.

I think we should take a completely different approach but not many people agree.

Only staff, they don't half moan when they can't get on it, some of them are so reliant on it.

When it was blocked by accident a teacher told me "she couldn't do her job". I Agreed.

I hope you were agreeing that the loss of youtube was the cause not anything else!

Our staff miss youtube as they had it through an alternative supplier for a while, so just trying to get it re-sorted for them, but at no point will students get it! I have made that very clear and have posted up the section of the Terms of Use that reference that minors shouldn't be allowed access to it.

Agreed, there are some times when staff access to youtube is necessary when dealing with cases of happy-slapping or sometimes where a video of someone doing damage to the school gets uploaded.

Agreed, but it is so easy to move material they need onto another source, that is likely to be more stable into the bargain.
