I have been given some clips that were created on a samsung video camera, these clips are compressed. The question I'm asking is does anybody know of any FREE software to umcompress the clips as Adobe Premiere elements does'nt seem to like them compressed and when you try to edit them video and audio go out of sync and stutters all over the place.
Thanks in advance

What format are they in? Do a google search on [file extension] to avi converter. eg. mov to avi converter.
Alternatively, see if you can import it into Movie Maker and create an avi file that way. Or export the file to avi using Premiere then try editing the avi file.

I'm gonna try exporting it from premiere then try and edit it, that could work.

not sure if it will work with the adobe premiere file formats but you could try gspot
GSpot Codec Information Appliance
that should tell you what video codec / audio codec its using.
If not then as you mentioned - used the adobe premiere to convert it to a format that you can use ie avi, mpeg or whatever

Sometimes you can just rename then to .avi or .mpg, more often than not that works for me!

Some JVC camcorders record in a weird format, but as you said if you rename the files to .AVI they open fine in media player.
