When I ran a pub in the East End of London we numbered amongst our locals Stanley Baxter, the bloke from Peters and Lee and Charlie Kray and his "friends".

When I was at school we had a visit from Helen Sharman, I think that's her name anyway, the first British woman in space! Don't recall any other Greats though.

Where I'm working now had a British Olympic medal-winning athlete to give out the prizes at last year's awards ceremony, which is pretty cool (not sure who she was though, as I didn't attend). We also have a number of students who are in national sports teams, so maybe we have some future stars in the making, and could ask them back in a few years...

My wife's school have had all sorts of visitors - Kelly Holmes several times, pop "star" Ironik and others I can't recall right now. Oh and Tony Blair did the official opening!

The 'Mackem Mover'. And I'm not on first name terms with the chap, I just know his kids come to our school.
