7th May 2009, 04:33 PM #2 Personally, I'd do it after you hear the result. It would be an opportunity to ask for feedback if you were to be unsuccessful
Doing it before you know the result might sound like crawling and put the panel off you.

7th May 2009, 04:40 PM #3 I would do it now. In my opinion you will appear keen and professional. It will also make them think a bit more about you in the descision making process.
I would however make sure that my spelling and grammar are perfect.

7th May 2009, 04:43 PM #4 I'd personally not send one, as it makes you look desperate for the job (Although I guess that's not such a bad thing!?)

7th May 2009, 05:00 PM #5 I sent one via email to the manager (I'd be working for) thanking him and his colleagues etc. I got the job but not sure if this was a factor???

...or desperate. I'd wait until you hear the result, if you post a letter now it's not going to arrive until after they've decided anyway.

Another reccomendation for after.
you could appear overly desperate of needy if you write too often

i was thinking of sending an email i need to send my reference's anyway via email so thought i would incorporate a thanks you letter with it

7th May 2009, 05:25 PM #9 Good idea - but as has been said - check your spelling and grammar (it's a 'Thank You' letter by the way)
Just a line or two thanking them would be fine

7th May 2009, 05:26 PM #10 Again i would personally do it after, if you have got to send your references in and that in then i suppose there is no harm in saying a small thankyou.
James.

Well if you're going to email references anyway, then you could say 'thank you for the opportunity to see the school and meet you in person, and as you requested here are my references' or something I guess.

7th May 2009, 08:50 PM #12 Email with references now, but a small note to say thanks (within the email) and then send the letter via post after the results are out.

Personally I’d say wait.
It’s impossible to gauge how your letter will be taken, so to boil it down...
1: Sending a letter after you know the outcome can only be a good thing, it can’t do any harm.
2: Sending the letter before you know the outcome could do some good or could do some harm (although the chance of harm is very slim).
So…
Option 1 = all good,
Option 2 = not all good.
I’d say wait until you know the outcome.

I think this is spot on advice.
