Hi guys,
So I've been working in the LEA for about 6 years and during this time i have only ever seen one discount for Public Sector workers. I know the police can get discounts on Gas and Electrics.
It will be good to share these deals if there are any with fellow Public Sector Workers.
I ll get the ball rolling: Zurich Insurance, i think they do a 10% discount for PSWs.

17th April 2009, 01:20 PM #2 I know the NHS has a lot of discounts arranged - see NHSdiscounts.com and also frequently email their staff with very low price office 2k7 bundles etc, I'd guess the police probably do the same sort of thing but I don't think many other public sector workers are looked after in the same way.
Councils etc just aren't as united as the NHS/Police force appear to be so won't have the clout behind them to arrange such discounts with large retailers.
Many small places like costa coffee will do 50% discounts for the police but I doubt they'd even consider extending this to other public sector employees.

17th April 2009, 02:09 PM #5 In the public sector you are all over paid, retire early and have inflation proof pensions !
You probably have a second job that pays cash.
What makes you think you deserve discounts as well!
Joke..

17th April 2009, 02:42 PM #6 .....Ok back on topic
If you work for Leicestershire then they have a quite useful scheme called 'Just Rewards'
Unfortunately the info on it has been moved from its own website onto EIS (needle in haystack) but worth a look at - I quite a reduction on gym membership.

17th April 2009, 02:45 PM #7 Public sector generally has good benefits, never going to be as good as Games Workshop tho.

17th April 2009, 02:46 PM #8 Hmmm.... discounted MOT via Council's Commercial Vehicle Testing Station for all staff.
Free use of all Council-operated leisure centres.
Discounts on all Council-operated services (eg: Skip hire via waste management dept etc etc)
They're the only perks that anyone uses with any success around here iirc.

That should read, used to have inflation proof pensions, retire early etc. Unfortunately now public sector jobs are low paid, final salary pension schemes are closed, the rules changing for existing members and the likely retirement age in the future will be 75+

But is that a real pub, or do they just get together and pretend they're in a pub? ;-)
