Normally you sign up yourself, there is an edugeek linkedin group.
Are you aware of the EduGeek LinkedIn group?

I haven't signed up at all and this is the information it has on me - Zak Fleming - LinkedIn
Is there any other way it collects the data?
Z

No not as i know off, maybe you signed up when you was drunk..![]()

Well it did cross my mind lol.
There is nothing in my E-mails relating to the site. I went to see if i could get into an account my trying to reset my password. It would not take any of my e-mail addresses.

You or someone else would have signed up only way it gets its info etc
Russ

Could it of got it form the schools website some how?
Is there a way to get it removed?
Thanks
Z
Edit: Just sent an e-mail asking for the information to be removed.

FN-GM,
When you have registered, there is an option to "Upload your contacts file" - so it sounds like someone who has you in their address book has clicked on that option and leaked your information into their system.
My emphasis - so they can give permission for your details to be searched, regardless of what you wantOriginally Posted by LinkedIn Privacy Policy Highlights

Is it just me or what exactly is the purpose of that website? Seems very pointless and is open to abuse with bogus or made up names.
I suggest if you want your details removed I would contact the website directly. They must adhere to privacy laws.
Pretty much anything, as you export to a CSV and then upload the file. They specifically mention Outlook, Palm Desktop, ACT!, Mac OS X Address Book, Lotus and something with a blue circle logo and a slanting "Mobius strip"?.
As it also includes vCards, so there can be quite a bit of info in there!

LinkedIn is a professional networking site.
I use it a lot to generate contacts, broadcast my employment status etc. It is US based so has an American take on the way it operates but is growing in use in UK business communities. There are a lot of different affinity groups you cna join for discussion too.
I use it a lot for the BCS groups on there.
To quote something we used at the Dorset BCS Job Nigfht event recently :
"Serendipity is central to the networking concept. It only seems that it was just “by chance” that you met the right person, made a good contact, discovered that useful source of knowledge and skills."
Thus, LinkedIn has a role to fill to facilitate networking between like-minded professionals.
As far as I'm aware, uploading yout contacts from Outlook or web-based systems would not generate a profile on there, it would just add those people to your list of contacts. As with any site, if you think someone has been regsitering you when they shouldn't, contact the site administrators.
