I the same boat. Currently using Excel, have just found this

Looks like it might do the trick too.

If you're the lone techie and find a web based system to be overkill, but a spreadsheet to be too restrictive, Kevin Figg's Hardware Management System is fantastic. We still have a lot of standalone machines, so the web based systems don't really do the trick for me.

Here is a small list of what HWMS can do;
* Act as an asset register
* Keep history on hardware
* Maintain a list of hardware offsite (either repair or loan)
* Keep yearly lists of stock checks
* Search your hardware database
* Reports on almost everything
I've been running our inventory on it for about 2 years now and it's perfect

Trying to download the MST Hardware Management System but cannot see it on website, even after registering. Assuming it is no longer around, anybody got the download?
Cheers,
Ben

- keeps track of toner changes for each printer
- Finance information
- AD integration - allows for granualar access as well as linking assets to staff
- reservations - keep track of who equipment has bee loaned too and when its due back
