Hmm, Which phone?
Afternoon Guys,
The time is coming to upgrade the mobile again and I am a bit stuck on a choice.
I want another smart phone but don't know whether to go down the Windows mob route, Android or Symbian. Current maybes include...
N96
N85
IPhone (yer yer i know)
XPressMusic 5800
A high end Windows Mob 6 device.
I have heard good things about the Samsung Omnia but T-Mobile don't seem to sell it.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I could consider...would prefer it to have to following specs.
3G, HSPDA, GPRS etc
5.0mp+ Camera
GPS
3" screen ish
Touchscreen
Lots of lovelly apps available for d/l to play with
Cheers lads/lasses

3rd March 2009, 03:32 PM #2 stear clear of the N96 i've head nothing but bad things about it. My mate has an omnia and swears by it. It's windows mobile O/S, however, beware, the newer pixon isn't windows mobile it's samsungs own O/S. I'm looking into getting the new LG Arena (KM900) it was supposed to be released yesterday!!!!
The N95 8GB was a vast improvement over the older N95 but they're a little old hat now, also depends if you want to join the "touchscreen revoloution"
Can't help with the N85 never tried it, my other mate has an Iphone which i have to admit (as much as i hate to) is quite cool.
Also if the Arena isn't out soon i'm thinking of getting the renoir
I'm currently in the same boat as you

3rd March 2009, 03:44 PM #3 We're currently trialing 3 phones:
1. iPhone
2. Blackberry Curve 8900
3. Nokia E71
Not impress with the Nokia E71 (we were warned off the N96 by a well known telecoms company). Impress with the Blackberry and the iPhone, the iPhone is slightly in the lead due to the bigger screen.
Both of those phones look and feel nice, plus connect straight to an Exchange server.

If you can live with the 2meg camera and the fact that it can't forward text messages or do MMS. It just does everything else.

3rd March 2009, 03:52 PM #6 I've been a Nokia Symbian Smartphone person since the Nokia 7650 back in 2002, out of the choice you just said, it would be the Nokia N85 for me. But i'm still in love with my Nokia N95, had it direct from Nokia for free before it came out to the market as thankyou from them for being part of the 360 Study (Carphone warehouse were very puzzled when i walked in asking for a memory card, were like where you get that from!!!
), and its the longest i've had a handset to date. So if your after a very stable symbian phone now the N95 although old is not that different from the new models but has the stability advantage. First firmware's on Nokia Symbians tend to be buggy, and because its an older model you should be able to get it cheaper.

3rd March 2009, 04:00 PM #7 I have a Samsung Omnia. Great phone once you've balanced out the power options and turned off the bells and whistles you don't require, because if you push-pull email then it drinks the battery dead in a few short hours. Change this to manual and it's fine.

3rd March 2009, 04:07 PM #8 I'd avoid the XPressMusic 5800, it looks far too plasticy imo
I'm finally Getting an Omnia tonight
- orange are still doing it(got it via tesco's). I Managed to get the phone for £10 on orange as a new customer as opposed to £175 as an upgrade
T-Mobile discontinued it last week... shortly after DPD(courriers) managed to lose the one on its way to me :/

3rd March 2009, 04:30 PM #10 Allthough the 5800 looks very plasticky it does feel very nice in the hand and the touchscreen symbian is very nice to use.
I'm having a few issues with some rss feeds but other than that it's good.

3rd March 2009, 04:37 PM #11 I like my N95, but the GPS has failed.
I would really like something with a qwerty keyboard.

3rd March 2009, 05:58 PM #13 I've got an Omnia....Meh... It's done nothing to offend me, i've just never grown to love it. I can't tell you why either. I do like having Windows on there though.
The G1 looks tasty...
