I bet he's on 20mb and just not getting the download speeds he's paid for.

I'm on the Virgin/NTL - and apart from the annoying shaping, the 20mb is pretty stable where I live.

Be Unlimited and my synch speed on my router is 10mbps down.

Sorry to hijackthis thread a bit but what things can I do to improve the speed - if anything - I have not updated my routers firmware as not to sure on which firmware to update it with - can post back with router model and hard ware revision later as I cant remember it off the top of my head.

What you're on and what you pay for can be different.

We've got a fibre line running into our comms room at work, but we only pay for a guaranteed 8mb service - runs around the 32mb mark constantly though.

I'd love to share my results... however, after 4 attempts...

I still don't have a final result The highest I saw my down speed hit was 47... the furthest it go in the download test was 82%

    Al hail Orange Broadband!

    upto 8mb my

this is what the BT SpeedTester has to say:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 2688 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1813 kbps
    Which is about right...

Supposed to be a 20mb connection but Virgin finally admitted there was a fault at there end and have reduced my bill accordingly (and have been for 12 months!!!)

I thought it was about time you saw a properly rubbish speedtest (although DrPerceptron does seem to have me beaten slightly!). This is on a good day too - the weather seriously makes a difference!!!

    ISP - Sky
Location - Out in the sticks near Preston
    Type - ADSL2
    Advertised Bandwidth - 8Mbps

    ISP: Plusnet
    Location: Reading
    Type: IPStream Max
    Advertised: "Up to 8Mb"

I connect at 6880 kbps, bit less than it used to be since I request interleaving to be switched off. 21CN is due to go live on my exchange next month so hopefully a boost will be available soon.
