Our union rep popped into our office this morning with the news that our current salaries were safe as there would no longer be a local pay and grading review. In its place there is to be a national pay and grading review, which I believe was the original intention when all this was first mooted. As far as the rep knew this only applies to staff in education.
I'm waiting to see it in writing though. Has anyone heard similar?

School Support Staff Negotiating Body (SSSNB) is on the horizon.
Will take a while before it has any affect on our pay packets though. 300,000 support staff will take some sorting
My guess (and it is a guess) would be April 2012 before it comes into effect.

2012, that'll be the point I get TUPEd to RM under BSF, so it's not much use really.
...well, assuming the sky hasn't fallen by then.

I get the impression from reading this, and The Support Staff Little Pocket Book (if you're a Unison member) that it only applies to TA's and Learning Mentors. I know it doesn't specifically state that, but neither does it mention technicians. How are we going to free up teachers' time to get on with what it is they're supposed to be doing? What administrative tasks can I undertake to achieve this?

They are working on using around 50 job descriptions for all support staff, this is to be used as the basis for the national pay structure. The unions (I only spoke with GMB) are happy about this. but personally I think that they have vastly underestimated the variety of roles within a school. Parliament votes on it this year and the govt's date for implementation is supposed to be next academic year -somehow I don't think they will meet this target.
I suspect that the national pay structure will be good news for the majority of support staff (whose roles are well defined) and bad news for tech support staff (except you chaps who are on 14-16k), another reason they want us outsourced under bsf.

Having seen the problems and how the local Single Status was handled I have to say I dispair of how a national one would go!
