what would be your choice of purchase if money was no object and why??

Are you trying to start a flame war?
<------ I'm not sure if I should state my personal preference...
...I may give a few reasons (for my system of choice) after a few people have posted (perhaps) a few more sensible replies!
i would have to say mic but that is just because i dont know how to use mac,
only used it once before for about 30min got some good programs on them, ie garage band espetaily photo booth - i like the way you can put your image on any picture (blue screen)
but im used to mic so until i played on more id have to say that
lol well ive only been in this field for year and a bit now and actually wondered what would be the real reasons to go for a mac as that is what most people said few years back, but for what i can see mac software is available for windows as well or near as to it.
yes or no??
ooh what next, PS3 vs Xbox, Cars vs Motorbikes, Up vs down?
FWIW I would choose a Mac as they are shiny and steve jobs says they are great.
More seriously a Mac can run Mac/Windows/Linux software while a PC cannot run Mac software, so the Mac wins!
Are we talking for personal use?

Heh just to fuel the fire...Mac everytime, because they are beautiful.
I'd have Windows desktop and a Mac laptop... I love the Macbook. Everything justs seems to work well and simple.
Hi-spec desktop system with Windows on it.
Always irritates me when people ask this though, you can't really compare the two. Microsoft Windows will run on most computers you can buy or build. OSX will (unless you feel like breaking the lock-in) only run on Apples.
So a Mac is a single product, whereas a Microsoft PC is a PC of your choice, which happens to have Windows installed.
As for choice of operating system, I'd go with Windows or Linux. I don't feel like forking over a small fortune to have a system I can't crack open and upgrade or play around with, covered with brushed aluminium. Gimme something in a good steel case with extra ports and the ability to throw in any modifications I want any time.
The idea of an operating system which is meant to only run on one manufacturer's computers kinda rubs me the wrong way. I like choice.

I think that I would have to get a really high spec laptop, Dell XPS or something and install Hackintosh OSX then hang out at Linux user group meetings just so that I could offend everybody equally![]()

I ('ve probably told this story before) got into Mac's quite by accident. I few years back I got really P*ssed off with my PC constantly BSOD'ing. Probably trying to print a letter or something. So I bought a second-hand PowerBook G3 from eBay - but not to run MacOS on!
I bought it purely on the basis that it used a PowerPC RISC processor rather than an Intel CISC processor. I installed Yellow Dog Linux and got to work. Unfortuantly whatever I tried I could never get DVD Playback to work so I bit the bullet and, since it was a Mac, I put OS X on there (If it was a PC it would have been XP!) and have never ever looked back - been hooked ever since.
I use XP all the time and think it is a fantastic OS. I've used Vista and hate it with a vengance. Like KDE4, Office 2008, IE7, WMP10/11 - It seems the only thing these companies have to change is the UI and not for the better! XP and Office 03 are perfectly capable products and M$ are only changing the UI to get us to spend more money needlessly IMHO.
Now Apples are Intel based and Sun's VirtualBox is free you get the best of ALL worlds in a Mac. I have OS-X, Firefox and OpenOffice 3 for 99% of what I use a computer for and Windows XP on VMWare Fusion (bought before VirtualBox was available, and I'm a VCP so got to support VMWare) for the other 0.01% of my IT usage.
