Well, it's snowed here, but we are still open, it feels like the only school in lancashire that is open......
We are off here , cos of the snow )
No snow here, I expect we'll get about 8 feet of the stuff on friday afternoon and it'll all be gone by monday.
The only concession was that the kids from Nidderdale go to go home early (usually 3pm instead of 3.55pm) if their bus company decided that they needed an early start to get up the dale. The kids who came on buses from other directions never got that. They had to wait until 5 to 4 like the rest of us.
A friend moved to Ashford, Kent and wrote an astonished letter to me saying her school hasd been closed for snow and there was only a couple of inches down.
It would be nice to get proper snow again... but I probably wouldn't feel the same about it now I'm a grown up. It's more fun when you're a kid!
Few inches of snow here in Bishop Auckland. At 7:30 the school was closed to students only; but half an hour later that was changed to include staff as well. Shame
I'm sorry - what is this 'snow' of which you speak?
Got a message off the boss at 7.30 saying "school open" - guess I'd better pull my sorry ass out of bed then.
Walked through the office and everyone is manning the phones with the amount of staff that can't get in. I'm like "Wha?!! It was a doddle" - I don't know, some people just don't make the effort anymore.
Anyhow, point of my post? Hopefully my efforts of getting here will be rewarded by being told to go home.....
Oh, and if the school is closed don't you have to go and report to your nearest LEA school? (Might be different rules for you Sylv3r).
When i worked in Peterlee I couldn't make it in once, I rang up and was told I had to go round my nearest school asking if they needed staff. Was told most of the time the head says they are ok and to go home, but I did choose the school with a bitch of a head and she asked me to stay and TEACH!
No snow here only rain and people driving like muppets because of it.
I said last night- if there's snow, I will be VPN'ing.
Last time, the head said "we won't close even if it's up to the windows."
He left it so late to start closure that most parents couldn't get through, and busses/taxis/trains had all stopped. Took me 3 hours to do a 10 minute trip. WHERE were the gritters? No idea. No road clearing/treating anywhere at all. Cars abandoned, others playing ice-skating.
I went down a dual carriageway hill backwards, because it was deserted, and untreated, and frankly the Astra wanted to do it and wasn't taking any correction. White knuckle for 3 hours. Not fun, never again.
Last night was good though...cars and busses sliding on ice everywhere. I had snow mode on, and took a back lane home...but I couldn't resist turning it off and playing with drifting the car. Automatics are fun on ice! I was sat watching from the window of my study as cars slid past, or idiots tried to use throttle inadvisedly. Golf R32s are impressive, but...heh...
It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't live by the river, and have to go down a BIG, traffic crowded hill and then up another to get home.
Curse all you snowy people! I'm stuck in rainy minehead. I want snow!!
I think the school closure was mainly due to the bad snow in the consett area, bus company saying they couldn't guarantee they could pick the students up etc.
I sent a quick TXT to all staff and parents this morning at 7:30 this morning informing them that the school was closed. I think I made a lot of people happy this morning
Never snows here, just a horrible sleet at the moment
