    999 Transcripts

These were in the weekend's Guardian but are also on the web site:

    Weekend | Life and style | guardian.co.uk

How the call operators manages to stay calm and give advice when all around her / him people are panicing etc is quite remarkable.....
I bet they are not paid enough........

I've spoken to some, and they are most definately not. It's a huge injustice, they sit in anonymous buildings and get forgotten about, and spend eight hours (or some ten or more) a day answering emergency calls.

Nee Naw-Observations From Nee Naw Control is a blog of an ambulance dispatcher who's asked for anonymity, so of course I won't tell you who, but it makes very interesting reading.

That person's blog gets a mention in the article in the Guardian's Weekend magazine - I've started to read bits of it when I get the chance.
It does state that counseling is sometimes offered - I just hope they take it because although all the calls in the article have a happy ending etc, I can't imagine what it feels like when it doesn't.

I'm off for a coffee now after reading that....
