Just a quick, non scientific one but what are peoples feelings as to what computer to pupil ratio's are like? We all know what the government say but what is it like in the real world?
We have approx 1000 students and have 500 pcs plus about 60 laptops

Ratio is approximately 1:3 on curriculum machines here
ratio is 1:2.25

You might find this information from the Becta Harnessing Technology schools survey 2008 helpful.
There was also some improvement in computer to pupil ratios. In primary schools in 2008, there was an average of 13.9 pupils to every desktop computer and an average of 31.8 pupils for every laptop. In secondary schools, there were on average of 4.3 pupils for every desktop computer, but an average of 61.4 pupils for every laptop.

Here we are 1:38 now
500 pupils to 13 PC's in a "suite", all our laptops are dead, and no money anywhere to get anything new at all, we even just had our LEA/Governors pay out for stuff to help the teachers/admin (£1000's for a new network) but nothing for the kids.
I can't ever see this school getting anywhere close to the 1:8 or 1:10 mark, at a push I'd say that we could get to 1:16, with 15 PCs in the "suite" and 15 laptops, but it'd break our bank astonishingly just to get that.

Present school (primary) 1:7.4

Simon

We have enough for one computer per student.

We didnt take a year 7 this year so that helps but that will only be 100 students.

about 1:3 for curriculum
1:1.9 here and that doesn't include any laptops for student use. We are also a pretty big school with 1380 students.

1:4.5 here in a middle school up to year 8
But in the first school where I work it has gone DOWN from 1:4 to 1:12 !!
Ofsted didn't mention it though
