    Names for ICT suites

Our two new suites will soon be finished. I've already started assembling the computers in one suite. I want to give the new suites appropriate names and I thought we could have a competition for the kids. But I thought we could also have one for the staff to come up with some comical names. For example, the basement suite could be Wuthering Depths. What would you call them?

    ICT 1 & 2

Famous people in IT would be appropriate for example:

    Kilby
    Berners-Lee
    Babage

We changed the old naming convention of C + number between 1-10 for our rooms to C + letter for each department so CH(Hums) CE(English) etc. But then we got a second room in Design so lesson learnt there.

I've seen some interesting naming conventions over the years, workstations being named after disney characters (was ok for 30 Cobalt RAQ boxes mind ...) amongst others.

Our rooms have numbers here, so the IT rooms go by these. However, our science labs have "unofficial" names of famous people on the door, although officially (and generally) they are referred to by their room number.

As for the computer naming conventions, we use DEPT + ROOM + COMPUTER (so, computer #27 in Design Tech room 48 would be DT4827); allows us to identify it immediately and also find it quickly

I have a server called Bart. Which caused some fun when somebody decided to name all the new Exchange servers after Simpsons characters without checking that nobody else had already had the same idea.

We're very dull. Ours are named after the room so J19-001 to J19-030 etc. The servers on the other hand are much more amusing (well to me at least) in that they are named after Muppets.

    C1, C2, C3 and C4, with machine names C1-01 - 32 etc. etc.

    Boring, but it makes sense.

I quite like the idea of "key IT people" - Babbage and Berners-Lee especially.

Dare I suggest "Gates Room"? Even "Torvalds Room" ?

I'd love to have suites named after cartoon characters, but it'd get old pretty quickly I guess.

I have spoken to someone who had a room named that. A few years later they changed the computers in there for Macs!
