I found a wiki once on machine naming conventions, based on how many pcs you wanted to name. Ive lost the address so if anyone knows of it please post.

At my old job we had different colour schemes for each IT suite, red, green, blue, yellow, white, orange, then the computers were red01, green01 etc

How long before somebody claims you can't do that because you're discriminating against the colour blind?

That's funny. Our science labs are colour coded like that. I wonder if I can get someone from County to send a letter on 1st April?

I had an idea for our ICT suites. We recently had a well-respected teacher die and also our Chair of Governors who was a keen ICT man. So I thought we could name the suites after them.

I used to work somewhere where all the servers were Simpsons characters too. Very funny talking to techies about work stuff
We use names of moons and stars now but we still have comedy names on a few.

Used to name our servers after mythological creatures, ie. Hydra, Gryfin, Phoenix, our switchgear after trek characters (Picard and Kirk were core and Uhura was naturally our comms router). The rooms were just 'Room #-PC #'.
Now were std RM so it's Sitecode-Device-Room-#.
