Smart Board - pen writing staggered - how to correct?

One of our Smart Boards - latest software update applied, is throwing up an odd problem and I wondered if anyone else had experience of how to correct it.

The problem is when the teacher is using the Smart Board pens the line / letters are not coming where the pen tip is but about half an inch away.

Re-aligning the board makes no difference and all other functions are just fine and dandy?

You need to re-calibrate the board.

We have promethean boards but I imagine it is much the same.

For our boards, we right click on the board icon in the system tray and then choose Calibrate.

You have to click in the centre of five X's so that it can judge the position of the board.

    It's very simple

Have you tried changing the calibration level from the usual 9 dots to the more detailed level? (I think you can do 27 dots IIRC)?

Thanks for that but no it's not that. On Smart Boards the process you describe is termed realignment and even if we do that just before the teacher starts her writing exercise the problem persists?

Have you tried orienting using the 20 point setting?

I had a board with similar problems as yours and it was solved by installing the newest smartboard software which prompted me to update the firmware for the board. Only do this if the orient does not work.

IME with smartboards, even a good board is only accurate to about the width of a finger so you maybe chasing waterfalls in trying to get it any better.

Is it the one with the integrated projector on an arm.

If so you align the board to the projector before you turn on the computer, then once logged in align the computer to the board.

If you dont there is a difference between where the computer says the pen is and where the projector shows it is.

Also look out for damage to boards by objects penetrating the surface.
Also had magnets carefully placed to cause disruption, but I doubt its that.

Try using an older software version to see if the new software is at fault.
