1 network manager (me), 1 technician

    6 servers
    60 staff laptops
    100 student laptops
    200 desktops

The 60 staff laptops & interactive whiteboards generate more work than the 200 desktops & 100 students laptops put together. We will be installing another 30 student laptops this year.

    Re: Technician / Computer Ratio

An interesting alternative measure might be to work out the support cost per PC in school as a ratio of salary cost divided by number of PCs?

    Re: Technician / Computer Ratio

We have three techs (well, 1 "NM" and two "technicians" but aside for responsibility of budgets the job roles are the same).

We have about 350 PCs, 75 laptops and 14 servers. Plus about 60 projectors and 15 whiteboards.

    Re: Technician / Computer Ratio

We have 1 NM (me) and a technician for ~270 clients, 8 servers and (it seems) anything with more than 3 buttons. It's getting better now we're replacing the unreliable BYO hardware we inherited, but still not great.

1 Network Manager (Me) and 1 Technician

    8 Servers

    365 Curriculum Workstations

    15 Admin Workstations

    90 Staff Laptops

    30 Student Laptops

    30 Interactive Whiteboards

    15 Wireless Access Points

And we appear to be in charge of anything with a plug on it to be honest. Will hopefully have an additional Technician arriving in the summer which will free a lot of the workload from myself.

    Re: Technician / Computer Ratio

1 (Me) for 13 servers, 150ish desktops (mostly thin client) and getting on for 100 laptops. All the usual manner of peripherals too.

We have over 100 staff and 1100 pupils (11-18).

SLT seem to think that replacing mice all the time is beneath me but an assistant is yet to appear and I haven't had chance to look into this any further... obviously an attractive female uni student would be good

Just me with 0 servers, roughly 30 PC’s and 20 laptops. I wouldn’t swap this IT Technician job for any other.

I now have visions of Miss Piggy being a SysAdmin.

Or Gonzo ... actually ... definitely Gonzo. After all ... what did he want all those chickens for except to sacrifice to keeps the servers up and running.
