I though it was just an ironic edugeek custom to complain about the wages when someone posts a job, when most of us work for very little anyway.

I'd hate to see bland job adverts with nobody complaining about how awful the terms of employment are.

or have a poll on every job advert with the options

1. Pay isn't listed
2. Pay is terrible
3. Pay is good

I have no idea what he originally said but this seems all OTT to me.

That isn't ideal though, as someone may well want to post a legitimate comment to it, for example asking for further explanation or clarification of a point in it. This could be done via PM, but the question (or rather, the OP's response to that question) may be of relevance to others so it would be good to see it publicly.

I think we're (Staff) going to be stalking the job ad forum to re-locate negative posting from there. Gatt's idea was great but I think Nick's point is valid.

I think we do need a section for Job Ad Discussions as Webman said - At the moment we're splitting them off into the General section.

I'm not having a go at you here CyberNerd

I believe there are professional footballers on £50,000 a week who think they're on poor wages as well. As poor as our wages are there's almost always someone willing to take the job. The salary for jobs posted here are not set by the person posting the vacancy, so complaining on this forum isn't going to raise the rate for the job advertised. Footballers have agents, we have union reps, or you can make your case individually to the head and governors. You can point them to all the complaints you've made on Edugeek about similarly low paid jobs and ask for an increase in salary. That should swing the argument.

Here's an idea....

How about we have a sticky post at the top of the Jobs Forum called 'Wages'. In it we can have a poll so people can vote for the 'ideal NM wage' or what ever and after about 20-30 posts we can draw the same conclusion we always come to when this topic raises it's ugly head. And then we can finally put this one to bed.

IE, let's have this conversation about wages one last time and then we can all move on and let the job posters be.

Just to beat the 24th poster to the inevitable punch line... Wages depend a lot on local market conditions. Here in Norfolk £24k for a NM in a school is the going wage. The interview I had in London was for £35k for basically the same job. In real terms, after taking costs of moving and costs of living into account the London job was only about £4-5k better paid than the Norfolk job.

It isn't that we don't want to see it Midget, it is just that the job advert list should be just that - job adverts - with any comments/opinions being somewhere else for people to view if they choose too
I find that the details of the jobs get lost in all the griping, and I can see how it might put people off from advertising or applying
As Grumbledook said, we all know that our jobs are not paid well, and it seems that there are vast variations in salary across the country - but the person posting the vacancy can do nothing about it and does not deserve all the negativity.
I would like to see a Jobs forum where the poster has to fill in a form so that we get all the details, and maybe a contact for further info, but no opportunity on the actual 'jobs' list to comment about salary etc
I agree with the form method as if someone ( or even numerous people who fill out the form ) are interested in the job and have questions then the person advertising the job can answer those questions by

A - editing the original post for or of the advert and adding these details

B - posting back to the advert with the original question and answer / replie(s)

C - sending a Pm to each user with the relevant answer(s)

Basically answering question(s) how they see fit depending on the question and the answer.

And the only person allowed to add or edit the advert or post should be the person whom created the advert that way if anyone does have gripes about it they can post it in another section of the forum ( and yes we all do know about wages in education etc as quite a few people have mentioned )

See, working just one week on his job will do me fine, especially during a week where no actual games are being played! That's a good way towards a house to be honest, some of us spend a significant portion of our lives working towards that sort of cash, not a week.

I have never seen that comment before, made me chuckle.

Now to the serious bit, if I do something wrong on a forum I would hope an admin would advise me or correct me rather than just ban me which happens on other forums.
I do hope I would be polite enough to thank the admin for the correction/nudge in the right direction etc and take note of what I did wrong.

Personally I think Job Advertisments should be just that, nothing else.

Sponsors, I would actually have no problems sending them an email or a letter thanking them for sponsering such a good forum.

Mods and Admins, needed by all too lead us in the right direction now and then.

PS. I prefer Netgear to D-Link
