No. Because I haven't joined, and why would I want to?

british computer soceity http://www.bcs.org.uk...

I have said before why I have joined but mainly comes down to few things access to training and networking...

Also been talk about having drop in cafe type thing at to www 2006 in scotland...

Quote:
"Dear BCS Internet Specialist Group Member,

Sue Black (BCSWomen Specialist Group Chair and also on the Internet SG committee) and I, recently had a discussion about the WWW 2006 conference:

http://www2006.org/

This takes place in Edinburgh, May 22nd - 26th next year, the BCS is a sponsor and one of the organisers for the event and will therefore be closely involved. World Wide Web inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee will be present.

We came up with the idea of a drop in 'WWW Cafe' run jointly by BCSWomen and the BCS Internet Specialist Group. Conference delegates will be able to drop in to the 'cafe' and discuss any topic from a 'menu' of technical and practical issues. BCSWomen and ISG experts will be on hand to demonstrate techniques/talk about possible
solutions to problems/answer questions related to WWW.

Please let me know if you would like to participate and/or have any ideas on what we should cover. All expenses will be paid for the cafe expert team."
So if get accepted for that would be good....

The local branch here is quite small but the talks they have are qutie interesting...

Also access to others things as career builder site and legal advice... have been of benafit.

anyway all have reason for joining or not just wondered how many and why not or why if you did join..

Yes, because I got a cheap deal on joining at uni and my Software Engineering degree has BCS level 2 accreditation.

lol you do but only time i think that is worth it when going for jobs etc...

But that is my view on mcse as well..

The one thing that has really been a benafit to me was career builder as it has SFIAplus™ skills framework intregrated in it and that has really helped me see what skills i have got and what I need to improve...

not just technical skills but other skills as well...

Was in it for 2 years while at uni @ £15 per year (student fees) then it went up to £25 for a year, then they decided to promote me (as i'd been with them for long enough - it's an automatic thing) and charge me £85 per year - this is when I cancelled my membership ! Waste of money for what u get

Afriad that wasn't true for me - some of the meetings were so poorly attended - it became depressing - at the 50th Anniversay event - the only attendees were the 6 committee members - I knocked it on the head after that!
