Deputy / Assistant Network Manager Job Description

I want to change my job title from Network Engineer (not really relevant to my job description) to Assistant Network Manager (which seems more relevant). Can people send me some job descriptions so that I can do a comparison to see what changes need to be made.

I've already looked on the Becta site and found a couple of descriptions on there, but I need as many as I can get to build a good case to present to SMT.

    Thanks,
    Andy Rodger

Contact your LEA, might also be worth contacting Cambs as well, seeming as your close. Assuming your using EPM, get a framework from them.

From what I remember, EPM's is just a a tick sheet of what you can do, which then translates into a pay scale.

Thanks for your help Matt40k. We are a foundation school so haven't followed MRS or any of the county guidelines.

I have asked for the information from them but really I need information directly from schools. As our head teacher does not like following any LEA directives.

What I'm hoping to do is gather together a number of job descriptions for Assistant or Deputy managers that fit very closely with my current description; then get the job title changed and hopefully match it up to a better salary as well.

Do you really need the Deputy / Assistant title, surely Network Engineer would cover the same ground and entitle you to the same(ish) salary?

I can see there being a case if you had people reporting to you -

    ie

    NM
    |
    Assistant NM (you)
    |
    Network Engineer(s)

    but if it is just

    NM
    |
    Assistant NM

Are you deputising for the NM and there are other members of the team with the same job title as you?

    somabc,

There arent any others with the same job title as me, there is a Technician underneath me. I do deputise for the Network Manager though.

You do have a fair point although at our school a title that suggests a management role (albeit partial) will fetch a better salary than one that doesn't.

The idea of job titles is it's suppose to be univeral. Also the differents in the title will equal around £5k. I would still ask them for a guide, they are normally pretty good, most public sector workers like a good moan about pay and don't mind helping people, even if they aren't official allowed to help.
