Excellent - a schism! Usually this is only done by religions - nice to see atheism flying the flag

If it does, at least it will do it logically without resorting to belief in faeries and re-writing the rules.

Hahahahahhaa... (he says non detrimentally )

That's the best definition of atheism I've heard!... re-write the rules and base it on a fantastic belief. Perfect!

I really didn't expect the logic of the junior school playground here... That really beggars belief. Nah nah, I can't hear you!

Re-write who's rules? Jehovah, Buddha, Jupiter, or some other deity?

    *reels him in*

Atheism is a modern day faith supposedly freeing you from preceding belief systems (where have we heard that before I wonder..), itself a step into the un-knowable. Is this not so? (you don't have to answer that! There be Dragons (no really!!!)

I actually agree with the reasoning behind the bus campaign, it being to counteract the awful message "the Jesus Said ads running on London buses in June 2008. These ads displayed the URL of a website which stated that non-Christians "will be condemned to everlasting separation from God and then you spend all eternity in torment in hell". Very wrong.

Atheism IS NOT a faith. Faiths are for the delusional.

Agnosticism is a statement of truth, atheism and deism are statements of faith.

Only someone religious would argue that atheism is a faith ?

Of course atheism isn't actually a 'Faith', but what I'm saying is that it's a faith stance... you assert something you can't know, like theists do.

(although there are qualifying characteristics: it reflects and justifies the zeitgeist, it has prominent evangelists making a living from it..)

If you're limited to the realm of empirical proof, then I would suggest that agnosticism is the only correct position to take. Of course agnosticism is far too weedy a concept for anyone to want to be associated with, so people tend to adopt the more respectable label of atheist.

Like Tommy Sheridan was trying to say to LaToya Jackson on Celeb Big Brother, if you don't know about something, why have an opinion (she was talking about being sure of the existence of extra terrestrial life). 'Religion' has deservedly a very bad rep, but IMHO you'd be denying yourself a rich seam of human experience and knowledge by dismissing it.
