we should have quote boxes that are a different colour for rants.

When migrating domains the worst thing is putting clients on the new domain, how many did you have to do?

    400 ish ....

but with Microsoft's latest migration tool as long as the computer is turned on and has the correct settings (ie firewall turned off etc) you can get it to migrate automatically with an agent

Its a wonderful sight when it works

    Hi

The tool your looking for is call the Active Directory Migration tool 3.0 (ADMT 3.0)

    ADMT Manual Download

    and the tool is here:

    ADMT 3.0 Tool

I hope this helps, it has the ability to migrate user accounts (with passwords), migrate computer accounts (automatically) and migrate security groups (always a bonus!)

Let me know if this is what your looking for

I used ADMT before with mixed success... I found myself manually doing a lot of machines for one reason or another - but if you're lucky, yes it can take the bulk of the work away.

what about putting the machines on the domain? Do you have to visit each one?

nope, as long as the agent works as it should and the machine has the firewall switched off and the correct cress it should move the computer to the new domain and join it as well
