The problem with the sun/skin cancer/sunburn isn't that the sun is hotter, but that there is less ozone layer and therefore more ultraviolet radiation.

I don't understand the whole wanting to looked tanned craze, we live in England, which is a cold rainy country, we don't get that much sun. So why can't people just be happy with pale skin.

Exactly - natural state is pale, so being tanned marks you out as able to afford pricey foreign holidays (or less pricy tanning booths, or, in this case, dodgy fake-tan). The weird thing is that a century ago, or less, the exact opposite was true - manual labourers worked in the fields and got tanned, so being pale marked you out as being more upper-class.

Well that's the point... The Oompa Lumpas aren't going to be allowed to wear excessive amounts of makeup either. What the media has decided is that we are banning fake tan but what the two page letter actually said was that excessive use of fake tan and makeup isn't allowed (along with short skirts, excessively long hair, false nails, certain types of shoe, etc.).

I had a group of kids on detention copying out the Computer Misuse Act (cheers for that one ChrisH) and one of the girls lent on a lads shoulder as she whinged about the hardship I had inflicted... half her face came off on his blazer! This is the sort of excess we are talking about... makeup trowls anyone?
