If so you'll want to have continuous service with said council so make sure you put your last day working as the sunday before you start on the monday. otherwise you missed the weekend and you don't get continuous service (which is stupid i know because we don't work weekends but that's the way it goes)
Never thought of that suspect you could arugue the case of continued service if finished on friday and started new job on the Monday. But still better safe and sorry..

Excuse my ignorance. Is continuous service to do with pensions and things?
Also this same if moving to another la as continues service can cross to any Local authority to if work in Leicestershire and then move to a job say in Devon then your continues service, pension follows etc.

YEah it's just what i got told by my colleagues at my last job when i left, it's got something to do with holidays aswell becuase after 5 years continuous service you get more than your standard 21(?) days holiday and get 25(?)

Just did mine the other day and wrote in that that my last day of work for them will be the Xth August 2008. I only have to give a month so ive given more than that but told them the exact date i will stop working, now fine they may write back and say go earlier but i will see.

You should find most payroll departments will put the sunday as your last day anyway. I recently changed jobs and handed my notice in with the Friday specified as my last day of employment, but on my P45, they had put the Sunday down ayway.

Continuous service affects your pension entitlement, your holiday entitlement and other things like the payout you would receive if you were made redudant.

Speaking of continuous service, are strike days counted as a break of service or is non-payment considered as sufficient punishment?
