You do need an enterprise CAL for every client, as well as the server software (or Standard for Standard). Costs, I've no idea what we paid (if we have even paid yet!), we started off as a pilot using our Technet+ evaluation copy and the evaluation went so well it just sky rocketed!

You need a good server for it though, and good is key, ours has 4gb ram and really needs more! In terms of the software, you need the main server OS Licence, the SharePoint 2007 Licence (either std or enterprise), CALs for the clients (either Std or Enterprise - can be purcahsed as part of a Core Cal pack I believe which has the Office, Exchange, SharePoint and possible a Server Cal in it I think which gives best value). Looking at Pughs select education spreadsheet, It looks like CALs are about £12 each, the server is £714, £926 for the SQL 2005 Std Licence (thats the CPU licenced version) and then what ever you pay for the Windows. But obviously check what your licence agreement covers etc.
