I am a little board and I can’t sleep because its warm tonight so I thought I would post this.
What jobs do you hate doing at work?
I hate sorting out Printer & Projectors, anything else I don’t mind doing.

Cleaning projector filters & tidying cables are probably my 2 worst jobs
changing printer toners -- our campus at its longest is about 1km wide so ... yeah .. i need a monorail or tram or something!
getting printers that have the print servers attached to them like those parallel to rj45 type ones that keep going down or not working and need a power cycle to work and changing toners.
As for the size of the place would be nice to have a quad bike to get around. I quite enjoy the projector stuff like cleaning the filters, changing the bulbs etc its just taking them down and putting them back up thats the PITA for me.
They just re arranged the rooms and had to mount a whole bunch of multi way ( power strips or whatever you call them ) to the back of each desk - that takes patience lol
Upgrading rubbish software!
Best not name them here (some companies don't like users who complain about their software) but we use two different pieces of admin software both of which have rubbish update processes.
Essentially, they are both SQL databases with a front end. All the updates do is to copy in some new files, delete old ones and make changes to the SQL database tables. That ought to be straightforward but it rarely is. Each package uses 2-3 different ways of making changes to the SQL tables, none of them is properly automated (which is why I started work very early this morning so that I could try and get the wretched thing finished!)
Dealing with the laptops for students that we got in under some government scheme. Initially told wouldn't cut into our time at all so why've I got nearly 40 due back in my store to be cleaned and re-imaged.

Printers and backup tapes. Grrrrr
Anything to do with quicktime, flash etc. Pressing the source button on projectors!![]()
Adding new items to the asset register (I always forget), agree with gecko - print servers that need power cycling (AAARGHH!!) and anything to do with laptops/wireless
Walking to the other side of the school to flick a teachers wireless button to on.
Network not working, or no power.
Only to walk around half the school and find out, that the RJ45 cable is unplugged, or the power button wasn't pressed.
I don't have time for people that cant even troubleshoot themselves, even after being shown how.
Probably my constant requirement to push a laptop trolley (or quite often 2 in quick succession of each other if booked in 2 different places at same time).... I quite often find my day is like this:
Period 1 - Move trolley 1 & 2
Period 2 - Move trolley 1
Period 3 - Move trolley 2
Period 4 - Move trolley 1
Period 5 + 6 - Charging (thank goodness!)
etc etc.
Pain!
Another thing that I don't like is being approached by teachers to do photocopying, or complaining about it not being done - it's not really my job, I'm an ICT Technician, but I often get confused by staff as being a reprographics technician!
Bloody projectors
Oops_my_bad (10th June 2008)
Cleaning projector filters, switching on monitors for teachers that can't figure out why the "tele bit" isn't working as someone said to me today.
Anything involving printers rarely turns out to be a good thing. Cleaning keyboards is a bit tedious too.
