So today is my first day in for half term, booked tue-weds off.
It's me, the caretaker and the cleaners in. I have no work to really do, but we are required to come in. Why?
I know my contract states all year round, but then so do a lot of peoples here and none are ever seen during holidays.
I'm paid 37 hours a week, as are a lot of people, yet by 4:30/5 when I leave the car park is empty.
So for now its me sat alone in our baking room (no AC), listening to internet radio and struggling to stay awake.
Thank god for this tennis ball!!!!!

29th May 2008, 11:14 AM #2 Ha! I feel your pain. Same here.
Highlight on Tuesday was when a pupil randomly turned up with a big chocolate cake she baked for the caretaker that we tucked into. Yum.

29th May 2008, 11:15 AM #3 Not a chance in hell I'd eat anything the kids here make. They are the sort of kids who would quite easily mistake Nipon and flour!

29th May 2008, 11:33 AM #4 Been through various stages here over the years, some hols we've sat and played Unreal Tournament all day (IT staff, caretaker, his kids, etc!) other hols have been manic rekitting rooms out!
At the moment it's quiet, we're just rechecking what's being dumped and what's being taken to our new school in the summer, hardly stressful times

29th May 2008, 12:03 PM #6 contink, its ok, every summer holidays for the past two years we've had some form of server failure, like clockwork!
first was evesham wiping our raid, fu**ing off then leaving us to pick up the pieces
then we had another servers hard drives die meaning we had to rebuild
so im fully expecting this summer hols to have another server die. :P

29th May 2008, 12:26 PM #7 Well I have been doing the grand task of labelling staff machines and checking biosi (what is the plural of a bios?!) Dull but strangely rewarding!

29th May 2008, 12:36 PM #9 Yes the workload varies during the hols. Pretty dead this half term as the stuff I planned was much quicker than I thought - very unusual
If the summer is quiet I plan to take my Wii in and hook it up the new big screen in the hall. Giant Wii tennis anyone

30th May 2008, 08:19 AM #10 Wii on big screens is good fun. Set that one up a few times for the students during lunch times! :P
We've got stuff to do here, no real stress though.
We've been going through what stuff we *really* need as we've moving offices (Was meant to have moved by now, but I'm not sure that the staff know that we're stealing their offices). Because this one is huge (they're turning it into two classrooms) we've got loads!
Grabbing bits of mice and keyboards that dont work to bodge some to work.
Also been checking all the computers in the school which isn't a nice task theres about 600 desktops.
We promoted a server that we hadnt been using to a domain controller, so now we have three.
And i think it's going to be a pizza hut lunch today :P

30th May 2008, 08:30 AM #11 We are genuinely busy every holiday, with implementing new services or improving existing ones. Or even boring things like auditing equipment. Given our staffing levels we do not have time to get these things done in term time.
Why no do the public a favour and ask to go term time and stop wasting tax payers money then!

Go to the Gym, practice some squash, or basketball or some other activity to keep yourself amused for a while.

30th May 2008, 12:44 PM #14 What a shame
Theres lots of fun to be had around a school if you have the time for it and look for it, mostly in the Arts departments though :P. I'd get myself on the drum kits in music and break out some beats if I had the time for it (haven't played for a while now!
