20th May 2008, 10:04 AM #1 Lazy Companies
Over the last 12 months or so I've noticed an increase of emails to my inbox. Nothing unusual except that half of it starts off:
FAO {name of individual or head of dept}
All companies that do this please note:
I DO NOT WORK FOR YOU - I WILL NOT FORWARD ALL YOUR EMAILS FOR YOU - IT WILL BE ADDED TO THE JUNK MAIL FILTER AND DELETED - YOU HAVE JUST WASTED YOUR TIME!
Just another point - Why would I deal with a company that cannot be bothered to find a correct address or the correct individual to do business with. Hardly an advert for your committment to a prosperous working relationship is it?

20th May 2008, 11:17 AM #2 Agreed. Speculative claptrap. I get no end of crap to "Head of IT" or "IT dept". Just bloody laziness. Mind you, i'd rather they didn't phone to find out my name. Why can't they just bugger off?
If i need something, i'll call them!

20th May 2008, 11:30 AM #3 Also what annoys me is when they get your job title wrong, dispite being told several times. I've had some mail sent to me with my job title as "Head Master"
... wish i got paid as that!

20th May 2008, 12:17 PM #5 Our office give cold-calling IT companies my personal mobile number! To be honest I don't mind as I'm the only IT person here and it makes a change to talk to someone with some sense. With the exception of NS Optimum, I try and be polite and listen to what they are saying.

20th May 2008, 12:27 PM #7 I don't think they have any right to give out your personal number
If anyone did that here - I'd.....disable their pc - permanently!

20th May 2008, 12:41 PM #9 The annoying thing is that half the time they actually know the individuals name but still send it to my email addy on the assumption I'll pass it on

20th May 2008, 12:42 PM #10 Worse than that is companies blatantly lie to you.
Recently someone phoned to confirm a date for a demo of some product. I said that I hadn't asked for a demo. They replied that it was the head who set it up (they knew his name but that is easy to find out) and to arrange it with me.
I'll just check I said. The Head had no idea about it. I asked them if they had really talked to the Head because he hadn't heard of the company or the product. They admitted that no, they hadn't. The phone was replaced in the cradle.
As if they wouldn't get found out?!

20th May 2008, 12:46 PM #11 We havn't had that but we have had the "When can we come and install our demo software for you to look at? "
Answer :- You can't!!!

20th May 2008, 01:08 PM #12 I like to ask cold callers to email me the details of what they are offering. I then proceed to spell out my email address and hang up half way through the first bit.
Another strategy when receiving marketing calls is to go completely silent on them and listen to them saying "hello, hello," etc until they get fed up and hang up.
Childish.
