Getting a laptop sometime this week - its a HP pritty high end.
Will have Vista installed on it upon arrival - questions is???
Keep Vista or not?
Only going to be using the laptop for light internet use, word processing and occasionally dvd viewing. Is it worth the hassle of switching.....

23rd April 2008, 04:47 PM #6 I've got it on my new work desktop pc and it's growing on me. Still finding my way around a bit but don't dislike it as much as when I had the beta.
On the whole I'm not sure I see huge advantages to it but if it were me I'd probably just leave it on the laptop. I got my son an HP laptop at Xmas and it was real pain to find XP drivers for everything.
Given your usage it's probably not worth the faffing.

23rd April 2008, 05:14 PM #7 To be honest for your usage i'd stick with Vista for now and only change if you really don't like it. I've been using Vista at work and generally it's ok as a standalone it seems to become a pain when rolling out in a network environment.
Would be interesting to keep UAC turned on for a while and give some feedback it seems to of improved with SP1 and newer apps seem to work better with it.

Mm- i like the basic idea but what do you mean by Vista functionality?
And although we all (well most) want to avoid vista as much as possible wouldn't the price be a bit prohibitive?

Simon
PS And is actually out yet?
PPS My Fujitsu supplier says that FJS have told them that they will continue to provide twinload machines after June (e.g Vista pre-installed with an XP Pro upgrade disc packaged with it.

24th April 2008, 09:31 AM #11 I'd be tempted by Server 2008 myself, alot faster but you've got a high end lappy there so Vista should be grand, it's really not worth the hassle putting on XP just for the basic tasks you've outlined, if you were gaming and a game didn't run on Vista then fair enough but it's not worth paying for XP when Vista is fine for all that stuff - I got a HP Compaq Presario V6642EM for Christmas and bought an upgrade to Vista Ultimate - would never look back at XP anymore. I VM alot and the fix for copying folders is the only improvement that I needed for home use.
